In Canada, we have seen an increase in many rescues reaching out to other countries around the globe and to our Northern communities who do not have the same focus regarding animal welfare as much of Canada does.  Dogs from all over the world are being welcomed into our homes as foster pets or newly adopted family members on a daily basis.  Many escape the wonderful life they have been offered due to fear and the overwhelming changes presented to them. The changes these dogs experience can be terrifying to them and are real.  Prevention for these dogs needs to start within the rescue organization itself.  It takes time for any recently adopted pet to decompress & begin to develop trust & a bond with their new family and should be considered a flight risk for weeks, months and with some a lifetime .  The following documents can be used as your own personal checklist / self contract.
